The answers to the questions are my own opinions and you may get different answers to the same questions from other breeder/owners.

     I encourage you to interview various different Breeders and Owners before you make your decision as to where you wish to go for information and possibly for an Alaskan Klee Kai of your own.

How many Alaskan Klee Kai do you own?

I AM OWNED BY 9 ALASKAN KLEE KAI.

Will we get to choose from the litter ?

YES AND NO - ALTHOUGH I HAVE A WAITING LIST, YOUR "PICK" IS ESTABLISHED IN THE ORDER YOU COMPLETE MY QUESTIONNAIRE, AND OF COURSE IS BASED ON YOUR INDIVIDUAL PREFERENCES, AND IF I HAVE A PUPPY AVAILABLE FOR YOU MEETING YOUR PREFERENCES.

Are your dogs  UKC registered ?

YES – ALL OUR ALASKAN KLEE KAI ARE PERMANENTLY REGISTERED WITH THE UNITED KENNEL CLUB (UKC).

WHILE A REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE IDENTIFIES A DOG AND ITS PROGENITORS AS PUREBREDS, IT DOES NOT NECESSARILY GUARANTEE THE HEALTH OR QUALITY OF A DOG.

Do your dogs have any hereditary or recurring health problems?

NO – BUT PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THE AKK ARE A FAIRLY NEW AND RARE BREED, AND HEALTH PROBLEMS MAY NOT YET HAVE ESTABLISHED THEMSELVES IN OUR BREED.

Are your pups vet checked and vaccinated?

YES - PUPS ARE EXAMINED MINIMALLY AT 3-4 DAYS OLD WHEN THEY HAVE THEIR DEW-CLAWS REMOVED. THEY ARE GIVEN A THOROUGH VET EXAM AT 6 WEEKS OF AGE PRIOR TO RECEIVING THEIR VACCINATIONS.

Can you tell me about the environment in which your puppies are raised?

CERTAINLY, OUR DOGS ARE FAMILY MEMBERS AND LOVINGLY SPOILED. OUR PUPPIES ARE LOVINGLY HAND-RAISED IN OUR HOME WITH OTHER DOGS AND LOTS OF HUMAN CONTACT. I RAISE MY PUPPIES UNTIL THEY'RE AT LEAST 8 WEEKS OLD TO ENSURE PROPER SOCIALIZATION SKILLS. WE HANDLE THE PUPS FREQUENTLY AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE ACCUSTOMED TO THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF A TYPICAL HOUSEHOLD AND OUTDOORS.  THAT WAY, THEY’LL ADJUST WELL WHEN THEY GO TO THEIR NEW HOMES AT APPROXIMATELY 8 WEEKS OF AGE.

Do you provide a written health guarantee and/or contract?

YES, ALL MY PUPPIES COME WITH A WRITTEN HEALTH GUARANTEE AND WRITTEN CONTRACT.

Do you have pet and show quality puppies, and what do you charge?

YES I DO. DUE TO THE VARIETY WITH THIS BREED – SIZE, SEX, EYE AND COAT COLOR, COAT LENGTH, AND BREEDING OR PET QUALITY, ALL MY PUPPIES ARE PRICED INDIVIDUALLY BASED ON THEIR UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS.

Do you have a waiting list?

YES, AND I DO SCREEN POTENTIAL FAMILIES BY REVIEWING RESPONSES TO MY QUESTIONNAIRE.

Where are you located?

I AM LOCATED ABOUT 20 MILES OUTSIDE SACRAMENTO CALIFORNIA.

THE BEST PART OF BEING A BREEDER IS HAVING THE GREAT FAMILIES I’VE SELECTED CONTACT ME WITH “PUPPY FIRSTS” AND PICTURES. I CONTINUE TO BE THERE FOR ALL SITUATIONS – BOTH GOOD AND BAD.  I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE PUPPIES BEING BORN.  I AM ALWAYS WILLING TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE AND ANSWER  QUESTIONS  YOU MAY HAVE, AND AM ALWAYS CONCERNED ABOUT MY PUPPIES.

Are the parents on the premises?

YES.

May we visit your home to see first-hand the environment in which puppies are raised and dogs reside?

ABSOLUTELY!  I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO ARRANGE A MUTUALLY AGREED UPON VISIT.

What are the most significant problems with the AKK?

THE AKK DO HAVE A TENDENCY TO BE SHY AND CAUTIOUS WITH STRANGERS AND IN UNFAMILIAR SITUATIONS.  THIS IS THE REASON WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE DAILY SOCIALIZATION (TAKE THAT NEW PUPPY WITH YOU EVERYWHERE!) AND OBEDIENCE CLASSES TO ENFORCE SOCIALIZATION WITH STRANGERS AND OTHER DOGS. SOCIALIZATION IS AN ONGOING, DAILY PROCESS UNTIL AN AKK IS AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF AGE.

Are the AKK an easy breed to train and housebreak?

THE AKK ARE VERY INTELLIGENT AND EASILY TRAINED.  THROUGH MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I HAVE FOUND THAT FORMAL OBEDIENCE TRAINING SESSIONS AT HOME SHOULD NOT LAST LONGER THAN 15-20 MINUTES.  THE AKK USUALLY MASTER THE COMMANDS IN LESS TIME THAN THAT.

Do you have shot records? Are they documented? Are the pups vet checked?

YES, ALL MEDICAL HISTORY IS PROVIDED TO NEW OWNERS IN THE WRITTEN HEALTH RECORD.  PUPPIES ARE CHECKED BRIEFLY AT 3-5 DAYS OLD WHEN THEY HAVE DEW CLAWS REMOVED, AND GIVEN A THOROUGH VET EXAMINATION AT 6 WEEKS OF AGE.

Are the puppies wormed?  If so, how often?

YES, I WORM ALL PUPPIES AT 2, 4, 6 AND 8 WEEKS OF AGE.

What type of contract, conditions or guarantees are involved in the sale of the puppy?

YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO REVIEW MY PURCHASE CONTRACTS AND WRITTEN HEALTH GUARANTEE.

Do you require a deposit to be added to a Waiting List?

NO, BUT I DO REQUIRE COMPLETION OF MY QUESTIONNAIRE.

Are the pups hand-raised in their home?

YES, ABSOLUTELY! PUPPIES ARE BORN IN MY HOUSE AND RAISED IN OUR HOME WITH LOTS OF HUMAN CONTACT AND INTERACTION FROM  FAMILY MEMBERS, DOGS AND CATS.

Will you ship puppies?

YES.

If you are expecting to pay several hundred or thousands of dollars for a purebred AKK, you should get the best puppy for your money.  You may think that your AKK is simply going to be a pet, not a show dog, but that’s even more reason for him/her to come from a breeder who is concerned about healthy bloodlines and good socialization.  An AKK who’s going to be a family companion should come from the healthiest, most temperamentally sound stock available.
